This Intro to Pilates video series will teach you the essentials of Pilates. After quick discussions, we’ll put what we learn to practice in a series of beginner Pilates classes.
Who Is This Series For?
This series is perfect if you’re new to Pilates or new to working out in general. It’s also great for those who have practiced Pilates before but want a deeper understanding of the “why” behind it. My goal with this series is for you to understand the benefits of Pilates. Even if it’s not your favorite way to move, it can help support your body in doing whatever that favorite type of movement is.
What to Expect from This Intro to Pilates Series
There are three types of videos in this series.
“Lessons”
These videos are quick explanations of the different components of Pilates. They include a bit of a practical component as well, practicing the things we talk about.
- All about Diaphragmatic Breathing – “Pilates Breathing”
- The Pelvis, Neutral vs Imprint
- The Hip Joint: Pilates for Happy Hips
- The Shoulder Joint: Pilates for Happy Shoulders
- The Importance of the Posterior Chain & How to Modify Prone Work
- Pilates Functional Core: Mover vs Stabilizer Muscles
Mini Classes
These beginner-friendly Pilates classes have specific focuses and follow the Lesson videos. So if the Lesson is on diaphragmatic breathing, the Mini Class will be a quick Pilates workout focused on breath and deep core.
- Diaphragmatic Breathing & Deep Core Pilates Workout
- Pelvis Placement & Stability Focused Pilates Workout
- Hips & Glutes Pilates Workout
- Shoulder Strength, Stability & Mobility Pilates Workout
- Posterior Chain Pilates Workout
- Functional Core Pilates Workout
Beginner Pilates Classes
These are 45 (ish) minute long total body beginner-friendly Pilates workouts. In these we start to put all the components we go over together into a cohesive flow.
- Total Body Beginner Friendly Pilates Workout (45 Mins)
- Total Body Beginner Friendly Pilates Workout (40 Mins)
- Total Body Beginner Friendly Pilates Workout (45 Mins) – This final one is the most challenging of the three, but still absolutely beginner-friendly!
How Best to Tackle this Video Series
There really is no best way to go through this video series! Go through it at your own pace—it’s not more effective when done in a shorter or longer timeframe. If you do want a more immersive experience though, you can plan to complete the series using a schedule of three days a week for three weeks. It’d look like this:
- Week 1 / Day 1: Welcome Video, Lesson 1, Mini Class 1
- Week 1 / Day 2: Lesson 2, Mini Class 2
- Week 1 / Day 3: Beginner-Friendly Pilates Class 1
- Week 2 / Day 1: Lesson 3, Mini Class 3
- Week 2 / Day 2: Lesson 4, Mini Class 4
- Week 2 / Day 3: Beginner-Friendly Pilates Class 2
- Week 3 / Day 1: Lesson 5, Mini Class 5
- Week 3 / Day 2: Lesson 6, Mini Class 6
- Week 3 / Day 3: Beginner-Friendly Pilates Class 3
You can also pick and choose the video topics and classes that interest you. However, if you do intend to complete and watch all the videos, I would recommend going through the series sequentially. The classes build off the previous videos so that in each beginner Pilates class we’re incorporating previous lessons.
