While I have several different Pilates-based class formats, my Mat Pilates workouts are what most people would expect when they hear the word “Pilates.” I am STOTT trained, which is a contemporary, anatomy-focused approach to Pilates, and then I put my own flair on top of that. So these classes will be a smidge different from classical Pilates (and a smidge different from STOTT!). Same general idea though.

Total Body Pilates Workouts
Total body Mat Pilates classes target core, upper body, and lower body, while emphasizing breath and postural alignment. Emphasis varies class to class, but expect a well-rounded workout from all.
Lower Body Focus Pilates Mat Workouts
These Mat workouts have a lower body focus. Glutes, hips, inner thighs, lower leg — the specific focus may vary, but all will be lower body.
Upper Body / Core Focus Pilates Mat Workouts
These Pilates classes focus on upper body and/or core.
No Props Needed (Bodyweight Only) Classes
No props needed for these bodyweight only Mat Pilates workouts.
Resistance Band Loop Pilates Mat Classes
We incorporate a resistance band loop into these Mat workouts. This is the set of bands I use ($10 for a set of five different weights).
Long Resistance Band Pilates Mat Classes
In these classes, we use a long resistance band. This is the set of TheraBands I use ($14 for a set of three different weights).
Light Hand Weights Pilates Workouts
You’ll need a light set of hand weights (1-2 lbs) for these Pilates Mat workouts. If you don’t have light hand weights, household objects work. Soup cans, full water bottles, lacrosse balls — all good options.
Sliders Pilates Mat Classes
Sliders are incorporated into these pilates mat workouts. Depending on what surface you’re working out on, dish towels work (hardwood) or paper plates (carpet). Or you can buy sider discs. These classes are different from Pilates Slide workouts. Pilates Slide classes have a unique format — the below classes are Mat format, just using sliders.
Yoga Block Pilates Classes
A yoga block is used in these Pilates Mat classes. In most instances, you can substitute a large book (like a textbook or cook book) if you don’t have a block. Otherwise, any yoga block works, but this is the one I use if you’re looking for a recommendation.
Small Ball Pilates Classes
A small Pilates ball is used in these classes. In most instances, a ball can be substituted with a small pillow or a rolled-up towel. This is the ball I use if you’re looking for a recommendation.
Standing Pilates
Like a regular Mat class, but all standing!
Chair Pilates
These Mat classes are all seated. Preferably, use a chair without arms.
